The Squid and the Whale

Lex had a project for Day Care. They were learning about life in the sea and we were asked to create two images of sea creatures on the back of a paper plate with facts about the creature on the front. I selected a giant squid and Karl picked a whale. Karl also sent along a CD of whale sounds for the kids to listen to. I worked in some extra credit too and did a drawing of a cuttle fish. I find those fascinating.

Bagel Making

I've been on a savory baking kick lately. This bagel recipe was from the same article in Cooking Light that the soft pretzels were from, but I like the bagels best. In addition to the poppy and sesame seeds, I've done fennel and caraway. Tasty!

Robot Party

For Alexander's first birthday, we decided on a robot theme. The cake was just a cut up sheet cake frosted with gray frosting. I had to get black food coloring and then mix with white icing. The candies are mostly the old time licorice candy's that we picked up from Walgreens. I also made a soft toy from felt for a little present.
